Chaim Weizmann, later the first President of the State of Israel, sojourned in Meran, where he resided at Hotel Stefanie and had his meals at the Bellaria of the Bermann family. It was an ideal place to collect funds for Erez Israel among wealthy visitors.

Arik Jerucham Fischl from Hrymailiv in Galicia was a “gaon”, which in Jewish orthodoxy denoted a venerated scholar of the talmud. Still today his grave attracts followers of his thought from all over the world.

Like in many other European countries also South Tyrol was the venue for many shameless derubations committed under the racial laws emanated on 17 November 1938. The many unjustified enrichments are mostly tabooed until our present day.
